JAM!! :D

Anthony and i are trying to set up a jam for this friday.

How did it come to beeeeee?
Well, ail's older brother, charles, (i think) had to do a paper and his group chose to write about parkour.
Then they interviwed me and anthony and so we gave em what we got. We talked about the culture, the philosophy, the essence that pk has for each of us. how it isn't a competition and how, just like philosophy, each person has his or her own path, and his or her own system.

The theory of reverse evolution (which we weren't able to explain much) but generally, we just talked about parkour.

Then after they left, we talked about the greater appreciation we suddenly had for parkour and how much we missed it. So there.

THIS FIRDAY, there will be a parkour jam.
Details? will be updated tonight, anthony and i still have to finalize em but it will most probably be in the QC area of Ateneo and possibly UP.
We know we're a little rusty, but it's a way of life, and we're never gonna let it go :P

Go pk!
Wait for announcements, okay? thanks :D

OH, AND...
We have a feeling, more jams will begin to happen later this year..
But the problem is, everyone's counting on US to make them..
SO.. to make things easier, better communication, etc.

We're gonna make the Parkour_philippines EGROUPS :P yey!
If you want in, just email me your email addresses, then we'll make it tonight :D thank you!
irapogi@yahoo.com

Parkour featured on CSI tv show
Entitled 'Tri-Borough,' the episode will see main characters Mac Taylor and Stella Bonasera investigating the death of a young man killed by electrocution and then dumped on the street. The victim is identified as Red 'Slick' Hontz by his best friend and frequent parkour partner Alex, but when it turns out that Alex already has a burglary conviction on his record, Mac and Stella are left to wonder whether Slick was killed while taking another less than legal diversion from his parkour run.
The episode is expected to air sometime in early December on the American television network CBS. 'CSI: New York' is the third 'CSI' show, after the original 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' and the first spin-off 'CSI: Miami.' The show
debuted earlier this year, and is currently attracting about 15 million viewers per episode. The series' lead actors are Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) and Melina Kanakaredes (Stella Bonasera).
Full information on the episode can be found by clicking here.
Good publicity for Parkour?
Here's some PK News for you, in case you're curious or just interested...huh? And if you are, support the PK movement <---gets? "PK movement" wahaha..ill shut up now.

MUST WATCH IT!

Jump London to air in Asia
The Jump London documentary is set to be broadcast again on the Discovery Channel in Asia on Sun 21st Nov at 9.00 pm, Mon 22nd Nov at 1.00 pm, Sun 28 Nov at 9.00 am. The times listed are in local Singapore time (GMT+08.00)

--->This is the famous Disovery showcase documentary on the art of Freerunning or Le Parkour. Some founding members of this sport/discipline have been granted to perform and practice their art in most of the most famous places in London. If you like it, there's gonna be a sequel called Jump UK which just finished filming and is currently being edited. I'll keep you guys updated so watch out for it. They say its gonna be better and features a whole lot of traceurs or freerunners, new and old alike.

More Parkour exposure on EX
It seems like the UF documentary aired a few months back on the Extreme sports channel has started to pay off.....This Saturday (13th of Nov) will see Chase Lee and his Supertricks team from the UK, getting some spotlight attention when their 'Evolution' video will be aired on a show called 'Sick'. Exact details of the time are sketchy but it's scheduled to go out between 8am and 12pm (GMT). *There's still a possible chance that the slot will be put back a week but for now the 13th seems to be all go.*
With the doors now open for Parkour, there's every possibility of seeing regular airings of the discipline on their channel. Keep hope alive.
Bulgarian Parkour gets media attention

--> I'm not sure if we even have Extreme Sports Channel or you guys..but if you do, doesn't hurt to check it out. I personally have a copy of the 'Evolution' Video...and yup, its definitely a keeper. Just reply to this post if you want to know where i downloaded it. PK4lyf!

Note: Just to show my respect, the news items are taken from www.urbanfreeflow.com , Global Parkour Network and Home of Parkour Worldwide. PrOpS!

In other news, we've been doing strenght and endurance training weekly since last week of sem break and will be planning to this regularly. We've also done some basics training over the break...and we've discovered some new vault variations and fine tuned others.
Friends are welcome to join us in our jogs and training sessions on Monday and Wednesday afternoons especially since sometimes, only two of us are available =p]
and maybe..ill go try to go back to weight training in the College covered courts gym on Tues and Thurs since this Sem is relatively simpler. Andre B. invited me, anyone else care to join me?
on a side note: Adhesion and I have joined Judo class, its fun, and we learn to roll better.
Also, we're planning to update the other Site with tutorials and pictures...so just watch out.
plus, we want to Club gymnastica to try some of the advanced moves and flips, and finetune the rest.(basics are still important!)
And the shirts are currently being made already by Tinahhhhh(thank you!!!)...once its done...we'll have our training shirts when we train around the campus YAY!

Crawl, Walk, Run, FREERUN!
-Du Pre

It's an article about parkour. When this journalist interviewed the the UF krew.
All in all, pretty good. She stays away from the conception as parkour being similar to "jackass" and brings light to the whole philosophy of it all.

After reading it, it made me think. I will not be selfish. Must be a traceur.
Le Parkour can be for anyone who is interested. But i do stress that you have to give respect to it and i just hope it isn't treated as just another fad.

I agree with the article.
My life's changed.
PK 4 LIFE.

click.

-Ira "ranois" Villar

live free. run free.
Our bodies, how they're built, and how we can improve them.

"I was looking at my fingerprints today... And I wondered, what the hell are they for? Then I started thinking...

If your fingers were smooth, no fingerprints, there wouldn't be as much friction. You wouldn't be able to pick stuff up as easily. Try this: Go pick up an egg, tapered side up, with the print area of your thumb, index, and middle fingers. Just grab the top, don't grab along the bottom. Now try the same thing with pieces of clear tape wrapped around your fingertips. No good! Why? No friction! Our skin is warm, moist, and ridged. Very good conditions for friction. Coincidence? (don't go into an evolution VS religion thing)

Also, look at the shape of your hand. What tool can you think of that is more pliable for handling and manipulating a larger variety of media? Nothing. (except maybe hands with dexterous tentacles instead of fingers)

Observe our musculoskeletal structure. It bends and twists in ways that are suited for an assortment of very particular actions: Running, climbing, hanging, swinging, jumping.... Sound familiar?

PK, as I see it, is reverse evolution. It's looking past what our intellect has forced our bodies to do: Sit, type, write, draw, overeat... So then Parkour, the Art of Movement, is primally what we are meant for. When you flow, try not to think. Let your sense of balance, gravity, strength, inertia, and desire to progress for the sake of progression take over. This overcompensation, body over mind, is what I think we know as Flow, the Zone, or even Nirvana. We think only with the very bottom of our brain, our hyposubconsious, beyond Freudian terms of thinking. Dopomine, serotonin, and andrenaline fill our nerve centers, subduing our neo-sapien intellect.

Strive for that place of thoughtlessness, where only what you feel matters.

How this relates directly to parkour; in summary:

Don't think 'Hey, I'm gonna to a kash vault and then tic-tac over that and then...'

Just think 'I'm going.'"
-geistopher

.. beautiful :)

Note: taken from UF site, for all of you still not sure...

What is Parkour?
Parkour is very basically the art of movement where participants (otherwise known as 'Traceurs') use objects within their urban surroundings, to create new and interesting ways of moving. It encompasses running, jumping, vaulting and climbing to overcome these obstacles, where the ultimate aim is to do so in the most fluid and flowing way possible. For people unfamiliar to Parkour, the easiest picture to paint is to say that what we do is the closest you can get to the Matrix, Spiderman and Hong Kong martial arts movies in the sense of movement, without the need for special FX or wires. Get past that mental picture and what you have in front of you is a deep discipline where, as a beginner you'll find yourself practising plenty of singular moves (similar to how skaters practise) but as you become more proficient, you'll find yourself automatically linking things together with the eventual goal coming in the form of one fluid run without any hesitation.

PS. watch out for the very interesting PK history coming up soon....

-du pre
